Aston Martin DB6 Volante: A Royal Convertible with a Sustainable Twist

When you're heir to the throne, your 21st birthday gift is bound to be exceptional — and in the case of Prince Charles (now King Charles III), it was nothing short of iconic.

In November 1969, just months after the launch of the MkII DBS, Prince Charles was gifted an Aston Martin DB6 Volante by his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The elegant drop-top not only marked a milestone birthday, but also ignited his lifelong affinity for convertible Aston Martins.

A Royal Classic with a Modern Upgrade

What makes this car even more fascinating is its modern update. In 2008, the DB6 Volante was converted to run on bioethanol, in line with Prince Charles' environmental values. He once quipped that the fuel was made from "wine and cheese" and humorously noted,

“It smells delicious as you drive along.”

The DB6 Volante remains in the royal collection to this day — a timeless blend of British luxury, personal history, and sustainable innovation.
