First look at the Mahindra Nuvosport

Mahindra has just launched the Nuvosport – a car that will replace the Quanto. The car was launched in 2012 but has had a very short production run.

Important to note is that though the Nuvosport is replacing the Quanto , the price range of the new car is higher than the Quanto. Where Quanto was priced between Rs. 6.50-8 lacs, the Nuvosport is priced between Rs. 7-10 lacs.

But the MAIN question is – What was the need for another product in the same category??

Mahindra had launched the TUV300 in September 2015 and slotted it in the Compact SUV category. The Mahindra Nuvosport has also been slotted in the same category and has the same price range. Difficult to understand Mahindra’s logic on this one !!

A look at the comparative dimensions of the two cars.

Design – Exterior and Interior

Looks wise, Mahindra still fails to get it right. I wonder why the company sticks to the box like design for car after car after car. Though it is an improvement over the past few launches, it still fails to set your heart racing.

Possibly, Mahindra is aiming only at people who look at their cars for its functional aspect and not as a style statement.
The cladding at the bottom reminds you of the Ecosport.

From the inside, most of the bits and pieces have been carried forward from the Quanto. Change is in the form of the interior color which is now black and grey. The car provides good headroom but rear seats are very upright .. reminds you of the WagonR .. uncomfortable right?? The two jump seats in the rear which make this car a seven seater are OK for children , not for adults.

There is a lot of storage space available and fit and finish is also superior to earlier cars.

Engine

While the TUV300 gets the 1.5 litre mHawk 80, the Nuvosport gets 1.5 litre mHawk100. The engine sound is very Mahindra-like – macho !! The driving experience is decent. Power delivery is quite good. For the AMT option, the unit is sourced from Riardo as earlier and is a bit different from that given on by Maruti and Tata.  The suspension is pretty amazing and gobbles up all the holes in the road without any impact on the passengers.

Apparently, the company has positioned it above the TUV300 but practically it is not possible as both the cars are almost the same. We will soon come out with a detailed review to point out differences if any.

The car will also compete against the recently launched Maruti Vitara Brezza and the segment stalwart Ford Ecosport.

So stay tuned for a comprehensive review of the Nuvosport as well as a Comparitive Analysis of the Maruti Vitara Brezza vs. Ford Ecosport vs. M&M TUV300 vs. M&M Nuvosport.
