Reversing

It is not difficult to gain control over reversing once you understand the factors affecting the behaviour of the car while moving in the reverse direction.

The reverse gear, being the lower gear , is sensitive to acceleration. Hence, one has to apply minimum pressure while reversing the car. The car also needs o steered gently as the front wheels now play the role of the rear wheel .

The precise operation of the above control becomes more difficult as you have to alter your normal sitting position to move the car in reverse direction with reduced visibility as compared to the forward driving. Thus, what is required in safe reversing is not speed, but accuracy and alertness.

When practicing your reversing skills, avoid reversing from a side lane to a main road.
