The transmission system transmits the engine power to the wheels to put the car into motion. The main components of this system are clutch, gearbox and drive shaft with a differential gear. The clutch enables to engage or disengage the engine power to wheels when desired while the gearbox enables to select appropriate gear to avoid strain on the engine. Rear-wheel-drive Transmission: This type of transmission system begins from the flywheel and ends by rotating the rear wheels through the clutch, gearbox, and propeller shaft and rear axle assembly. The rear axle assembly includes a differential gear, which allows the wheel to rotate at different speeds. Front-wheel-drive Transmission: The transmission system of such cars is very compact as it drives the front wheels only. Therefore, there is no propeller shaft to transmit the engine power from front to the rear wheels .The front drive assembly along with the gearbox is located in front either behind or parallel to the engine.
