Volkswagen India has recently launched its all-new mid-size sedan, Virtus, in the country. Pre-bookings for the same are already open. Due to its value-for-money features, Volkswagen Virtus bags over 4,000 bookings, \u00a0even before its launch. This German mid-size sedan has been priced from Rs 11.21 lakh to Rs 17.91 lakh, ex-showroom.. The new Volkswagen Virtus is the second product from the house of this German carmaker under the VW Group\u2019s India 2.0 project, the first one being the Taigun SUV which has received tremendous response in the market.\"2022<\/p>\n

It is based on the India-specific MQB A0-IN platform and shares its mechanicals with the Skoda Slavia. The Virtus is offered with two engine options. The first one is a 1.0-litre TSI that develops 113 bhp and 178 Nm, mated to a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. It also gets a 1.5-litre TSI motor that churns out 148 bhp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes paired with a 7-speed DSG. The Volkswagen Virtus will rival the likes of Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, etc.<\/p>\n

\nThe new Volkswagen Virtus has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 11.21 lakhs, ex-showroom. It is offered in four trims \u2013 Comfortline, Highline and Topline and GT.<\/p>\n

2022 Volkswagen Virtus: Dimension<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In terms of dimensions, the Volkswagen Virtus measures 4,561mm in length, 1,752mm in width, 1,507mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,651mm. Although the width, height, and the wheelbase are the same as the Slavia, the Virtus is slightly longer than its sibling.<\/p>\n

2022 Volkswagen Virtus: Engine<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Volkswagen Virtus is offered with a choice of two engines \u2013 a 115PS 1-litre and 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The latter gets cylinder deactivation technology, shutting down two cylinders under light load for improved fuel economy. For transmission duties, the 1-litre petrol engine gets a 6-speed manual and automatic, while the 1.5-litre is exclusively available with a 7-speed DSG.<\/p>\n

2022 Volkswagen Virtus: Features<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In terms of features, the Virtus gets a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, an 8-speaker sound system, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a single-pane sunroof, connected car tech, digital driver\u2019s display, cruise control, and steering-mounted audio controls.<\/p>\n

Passenger safety will be taken care of by up to six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and rear parking camera with sensors.<\/p>\n

Compared\u00a0 in depth with Rivals<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Volkswagen Virtus rivals other mid-size sedans in the market like the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Skoda Slavia, and the Hyundai Verna. Honda City and Hyundai Verna are the only two cars in the segment that also get an option of a diesel engine. The Honda City also gets a hybrid powertrain as well.<\/p>\n

The Volkswagen Virtus has been launched at a compelling introductory price that slots it right in between the competition. At a starting price of Rs. 11.21 lakh, it overshoots its Skoda sibling and is the second most expensive offering in the lineup.<\/p>\n

In comparison to its other mid-sized sedan rivals, the Volkwagen Virtus is placed a little on the higher side. However, it is to be noted that the numbers are currently introductory and set to rise after a period of time. In its defence, the Volkswagen Virtus is the biggest and one of the most feature-loaded sedan in its segment.<\/p>\n

Although the Skoda Slavia has a more economic starting range, it gets significantly more expensive than the Virtus as we climb up the variant list. However, the number of features remain more or less the same. Similarly, for the Honda City, that also offers a diesel engine, the price list starts a little steep. But, every following variant of the City, comparatively gets more economic than the Virtus. It is the model with the most-expensive base variant and even the most expensive offering in the entire segment \u2013 the City eHEV. It gets both, an ICE and a hybrid coupled together.<\/p>\n

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the oldest but the most affordable sedan in the segment with a starting price of just Rs. 8.99 lakh. It is followed by the Hyundai Verna, at Rs. 9.40 lakh that goes up to Rs. 14.35 lakh for its turbo-petrol DCT version.<\/p>\n
