Three cars of the Aston Martin entered the Le-Mans race of 1949. Two cars were fitted by a 2.0 litre, four cylinder engine used in the DB1, while the third was powered by the 2.6 litre LB6 engine, that was acquired by Brown along with the rest of the ailing Lagonda company.

Of the three cars one finished 7th , the 2.6 litre retired with a mechanical faliure and the third crashed killing its driver. Thus the Le-Mans race turned out to be a very unsuccessful one for the Aston Martin Company.

But the DB2 proved its potential by finishing 3rd in the 24 hour Spa in the following month. This car was launched at the New York Auto Show in 1950.

Soon the DB2 became one of the best-selling cars Aston Martin ever made. In 1951 a drophead was introduced and in 1953 Aston Martin announced the DB2/4, which included small rear seats and a lift-up rear luggage door.

Introduced in 1955, the Mark II DB2/4 had a slightly higher roofline. This car was powered by a 3.0 litre version of the LB6 engine.

The popular Mark III of 1957, offered 162 bhp as a standard and 214 bhp in its competition specification.
