Austin 7

Austin 7 According to the legend, on the billiard table of his home, Herbert Austin designed the Austin Seven himself. Everything about the car was to be small, light and cheap.

Here are some specifications:-

Chassis:-

Two channel section steel members which net at the front of the car where they carried a transverse leaf spring suspending the front axle.

While at the other end each chassis rail carried a quater-elliptic leaf spring on which the rear axle was mounted.

Simple doped-fabric body

Engine:-

The tiny 696cc side valve engine had only 2 bearings and 'spit and hope' lubrication without proper pressure feed.

Despite of its being quite crude the Seven was the right car at the right time. When the company was under the pressure of the rising Morris Motors, the Seven reinvigorated Austin sales.

We can easily say that it was a car that brought motoring to the masses.
