Nissan Motors India Private Ltd (NMIPL), an Indian arm of the Japanese auto behemoth, will introduce its popular sports car model 370Z in India in January 2010.
Kiminobu Tokuyama, managing director of NMIPL said that the SUV would be the third model in a series of fully imported cars after Teana and X-Trail. He did not divulge the price, but a company official said that the car will be available in the Indian market at Rs 35-40 lakh.
The company plans to also market the fourth model in the series immediately after 370Z and before commissioning the company’s manufacturing facilities at Chinnai in May next year, said Tohuyama on sidelines of NMIPL’s foray into Gujarat with the opening of a dealer showroom in Ahmedabad.
At the Chennai facilities, the company would manufacture five other models in which 80-85% spares will be supplied by domestic companies, he said, however, adding that the company will continue importing high-end cars from .
Nissan has a global market share of 5.67% and aims to achieve 5.5 market share in within a span of 3-5 years post the commissioning of its manufacturing facility. “The plant, which will have a V-plant-from facility to cater to export markets, will initially manufacture premium hatchback cars in the B-plus segment and shall be the hub for global souring,” he said.
